Making of the Sunrise Family Shot

I’ve been asked to show a before and after of our Family Sunrise shot, so I thought today would be a good day to do that! As you can see, we woke up early in the morning to get to this tree as the sun was coming up in the background. The sad truth is that most sunrises are not very spectacular, so I had to enhance the color of the sky in Lightroom. I pretty much brought down my black levels and played around with the color until I got it right. After that, I went into photoshop and after all of those telephone poles! This is where it gets tricky, because I like to preserve all of my clouds and as much detail as possible when I’m taking something out of an image… in other words, I don’t want you to know it is photoshopped! It took me quite a while to get every telephone pole out! Lastly, if you look real close, you will see that Austin looks a little different in the final image. That’s because he was turned sideways in the original shot and I had another shot with him facing forward, so I switched him out. Of course, the other image was a completely different size, so I had to shrink him into place and photoshop out my hands to make him fit right.

And there you have it… sometimes a shot is amazing, but sometimes it needs a little help;)
